The Traffic & Safety Commission meets just once in the last two months of 2014, replacing the Thanksgiving and Christmas dates from their ordinary schedule. This is a great place to make your ideas known, find out about the transportation issues and projects in Albany, and help improve things for cyclists and pedestrians in and around our town.

These racks that AS&R provided for the City are perfectly situated for folks who want to enjoy the beach, a hike or just enjoy the beautiful view. Let’s make sure we still have recreational access to the Albany Bulb and the Neck!
Do you ride your bike, walk, hike, jog or otherwise enjoy the Albany Bulb & Neck areas? Do you want to continue to have access so you can enjoy the Albany Waterfront to its fullest? Both pieces are scheduled to be transferred to the East Bay Regional Park District and some groups and individuals want to curtail recreational use. Further details about the process and possibilities are here on our website.
This meeting will be the first opportunity to give PUBLIC INPUT saying that yes, recreational access is important to you and your family!
More details will be posted as we have more information but please save the date to make sure we have access to OUR WATERFRONT! Speak up, or we are in danger of losing recreational access.

Bring your kids to Albany Police Activity League’s Annual Bike Rodeo!

Free bicycle helmets will be given to youth participants.
Rodeo activities will include bike inspections, safety information, and a bicycle safety course. The goal of the bicycle rodeo is to encourage riders to wear helmets on every ride, to give young cyclists basic skills for on-road riding, and to teach them the rules of the road to help keep them safe. This event focuses on young riders in elementary and middle school.
AS&R will again be working with kids, showing them how to ride their bikes safely and responsibly.
We’ll also have our ”Check for Bikes” clings on hand for parents…and the famous Bicycle Blender so everyone can pedal-power a delicious smoothie!
PLEASE VOLUNTEER: We could definitely use some help running the bike blender station and talking to parents and kids. Any takers, please? If so, please contact Amy Smolens or Ken McCroskey.

is a project of the Safe Routes to Schools Alameda County Berkeley Task Force in partnership with Berkeley Unified School District. This day of bicycle celebration and education will prepare families for Bike to School and Work Days and bring the community together on bikes in honor of the Earth.

The day will begin with a Family Cycling Workshop at 10:00am, with the festival starting at 12:00pm. Festival activities will include, bike and helmet decoration station, our annual Youth Bike Swap beginning at 11, a Bike Rodeo to practice rules of the road, helmet fittings, bike blended smoothies, bicycle inspired entertainment, a cargo bike demo station, bicycle face painting and photos booth, the bicycle Trivia Wheel, a Bike Polo demo and a whole lot more to inspire, educate and encourage bicycle riding.

Creekside Walk is a 128-unit residential project located in the southeast portion of the El Cerrito Plaza shopping center. The approximately 3 acre project site borders the City of Albany to the south, the Ohlone Greenway to the east and El Cerrito Plaza BART station to the north.
The 128-unit transit-oriented development includes 19 affordable housing units and 194 parking spaces. It consists of two separate three-story buildings above single-level parking garages. Vehicles will access the parking garages via a driveway on the western edge of the two buildings. For additional project details, please see: http://www.el-cerrito.org/creeksidewalk.
As part of the project, an approximately 180 foot long portion of Cerrito Creek, currently culverted, will be daylighted, a new public access path that will connect to the Ohlone Greenway will be provided and traffic circulation improvements throughout El Cerrito Plaza will be implemented.
