Alan E., Ken, Amy, Harry and Nick attended the meeting. Preston attended briefly, and unfortunately had to leave the meeting soon after he arrived.
Amy said that she had learned that we could distribute BikeLink cards. There seemed to be no downside and we agreed that this was a good thing. Amy will get them, and Nick will be responsible for our distribution program. Harry will help keep track of finances.
Bike bike racks – we have requests for 2 at Tay Tah Cafe, 1 at Bua Luang, 1 at Hamro Aangan restaurant, 1 at 545 Pierce St. (for guest bicycle access, funded completely by the Homeowner’s Association there) and maybe one at Albany Fresh/Zarri’s Deli. Looks like we’ll place an order soon as we know the situation with at Albany Fresh/Zarri’s Deli.
Shall we use our year-end contributions towards Bike bike racks? Yes was the conclusion.
The APAL Rodeo was a little smaller this year, but good. We had 3 people to fit helmets, make smoothies and do outreach. We expressed concern that APAL distributes skateboard helmets instead of bicycle helmets. Skateboard helmets are difficult to fit correctly, especially on young kids, compared the the bicycle helmets.
The Arts&Green festival was a successful event. Organizational leadership may change somewhat as some leaders may step down and other leaders and organizations may step up.
The Thursday Traffic and Safety Commission meeting was discussed. Chicanes on Santa Fe, the General Plan update, and a report on the Measure D working group is on the agenda. We discussed that the chicanes on Santa Fe, while not ideal, are not a problem at this time, perhaps because the area around the chicanes is always parked anyway. Measure D working group work will be discussed tomorrow, Monday, May 19, at City Council.
We should try to attend the upcoming Chamber of Commerce mixer on Wednesday, May 21, 5:30-7:30 at Club Mallard, http://albanychamber.org/?page_id=188&id=476&t=1
Our bank balance is healthy at $4100 and will land at $3,700 once currently pending transactions are completed.
It was noted that our Bike to Work day Energizer Station was successful.
The upcoming new Measure B for the November ballot was discussed. It was noted that we supported the last one, and we may want to vote on whether or not to support the upcoming one at our next meeting.
Our next meeting will be July 20th at our new permanent meeting spot, the library at St. Albans church.
