Attendees: Ken McCroskey, Amy Smolens, Harry Chomsky, Sherie Reineman

Meeting called to order at 7:10 pm.

2019-07-15 City Council meeting:

Harry to summarize and put out something to the Discussion list and post on website. Sherie will also include in the next (August) GREENways.

  • Kains/Adams Bikeways – the reference to this at 2019-07-15 City Council meeting by two different members of the public about contraflow parking was off-topic to the Agenda item 5-6, which was about a different project. AS&R will request a copy of the letter referenced, as it is part of the public domain, but was not a part of the Agenda attachments.
Discuss contraflow parking with other parties.
  • Solano Avenue “plan” now “study”.
  • Pull-out angled parking: what is effective size/duration of a pilot? Possible locations? Harry will ask for advice from people with professional experience.

Grizzly Peak Cyclists Donations Appeal (regular – 2019 Century profits): Need to edit and send soon. Due Aug.1st to GPC.

2018-2019 Uses/Expenses:

  • Bike Bike Racks
  • copying/printing (maps)
  • construction materials for long-tail bike parking for Bike Valet Parking / events. Amy will add this item to GPC request – others please check for accuracy, etc
  • Preston needs to add some advocacy items, Harry will edit entire text down for clarity, brevity and smoothness.

Future:

  • BBRs
  • BVP racks:purchase and parts/repair of around $200
  • funding bike corral at new parklet (Mr.Dewie’s) partnering w/ BicycleLaw.
  • more printing/re-printing of maps. Ocean View families. Amy: youth clings logo print on maps, will send to Ken (note: has already done so.)  Amy will add these items to GPC request – others please check for accuracy, etc.

FoodieLand Night Market: (Asian food night market 3 consecutive nights once a month during summer for three months (July, August and October) (note: see FB: https://www.facebook.com/foodielandnm/, website: https://www.foodielandnm.com/.)

Kudos to Ian for suggesting, to Sylvia for setting up AS&R’s participation, to Ken for coordinating; Consensus: successful collaboration for AS&R. FoodieLand is well organized, professional. Amy reports a good experience, lots of bikes. Ken reports the organizer told him at one point must have had 50 bikes; rented 10 racks this time (July = $250 $25/rack/3 days. FoodieLand pays on delivery (when they pick up racks; FoodieLand wants 15 racks for future. Have offered AS&R space for an info booth. Amy can come for a few hours on Sunday, October 6 (now maybe October 5, also), due to other commitments. Ken will approach Bike East Bay to see if they would like to partner with AS&R at booth, esp since Bay Trail to be soon finished in that area. Ken reports needs to refresh parts (missing feet etc; may have been damaged at event, but some already missing previously). Ken will inventory in future so we can charge for damages; Ken/Amy to put next FoodieLand dates on FB/website (website done); Sherie to put FoodieLand write-up in August and September GREENways (also list October event in the GW calendar section).

Solano Stroll:

  • Sylvia coordinating BVP volunteers. Amy will also personally solicit volunteers.
  • for GPC canopies, Sherie out of town during stroll and immediately prior, so canopies need to be moved from Sherie’s prior to Sept.3rd or 4th. Sherie to Direct question/cc to Sylvia who is coordinating BVP.
  • Still no transportation/delivery volunteer, no West lot Event Coordinator.

Ocean View Elementary Reconstruction – planning for kids to get to new school sites safely:

The Safe Routes to schools Albany Task Force of Parent Champions is working to increase walking, rolling, and carpooling to new school sites. Volunteers from the community are needed to assist parents in starting Walking School Busses and Bike Trains. Contact Ken at KenMcCroskey@gmail.com to volunteer.

Regional Transportation Tax Input Opportunity:

Ken reports an anonymous donor has recognized need for Nov. 2020 election ballot to tax residents/homeowners (regional, 9 Bay Area counties) to initiate large-scale transit projects.

Rene Rivera and partner have been retained to review what human scale transit projects can be developed. Ian to participate when returns from out-of-country. Ken: the meeting he attended was well-attended by many advocates from communities in 9-county region. Follow-up meeting expected.

Fast Freddie Foundation event: AS&R members Amy, Tony and Dale participated last weekend in putting bikes together for kids. Kids had to wrench the bike of their choosing with adult supervision, “real mechanics” also in attendance. Built up 13 bikes, and there were 3 more for others who are currently out of town. Ohlone Gardens (off Ohlone Greenway/on Portola) has large, secure bikeroom, with double decker locks, etc.

Happy Hour: Will we have Happy Hour in August? (No T&S meeting). Ken: let’s table for now, Harry will work with calendar to get August event off calendar. Sherie to remove from DRAFT August GREENways. Consider possible Aug. happy hour (with Walk Bike Berkeley?) or policy event.

Adjourned 9:00pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Sherie Reineman
