AS&R Regular Meeting (Virtual) – July 13, 2023

ATTENDEES- Harry Chomsky, Preston Jordan, Peter McCorquodale, Ken McCroskey, Nick Pilch, Amy Smolens

*$8K+ FROM CLIMATE RIDE
What do we invest it in? Write item for next G’ways asking for ideas
((post-meeting note: if we invest in Parklet furniture that will burn much of it))

*PETER McCORQUODALE REQUESTED FAQ PAGE ON WEBSITE
Thought it would help people with basic questions
Harry will create Google Doc for Peter to add content, then others can edit to put on website
Peter also noted, rightly so, that some of the website is out of date. For example, “Current Projects” included Safeway Remodel (so I deleted it.)
((post-meeting note:I also see that there is a tab at the top for Sidewalk Repair Map 2018 http://www.albanystrollroll.org/sidewalk-repair-map-1-24-2018/ . Wondering if that could be incorporated into the ( Sidewalk Census http://www.albanystrollroll.org/current-projects/sidewalk-census/ and maybe just renamed to Sidewalk Improvements? I don’t want to touch it coz I’m not a sidewalk guru but maybe someone could do that.))

*CONDITION OF WAYFINDING SIGNS AND PED PATH AT UNDERPASS
Signs are blocked by trees, faded, or non-existent
Ped path to avoid long paved loops has been created by users, people on Discussion List have asked for steps and Ken suggested at least one handrail
Amy met JoAnne Skinner at the Post Office. She is a scout leader (including Lucy Marten) and we discussed her troop taking on this project.
They could do signage and clipping on their own, path must go through CalTrans coz it’s their land.
Suggested JoAnne brings to Parks, Rec and Open Space Commission
((I have no idea if scouts are active during the summer – Bryan, are they?
Amy has sent JoAnne an email describing our meeting discussion and suggesting she contact PROSC for long-term project))

*BIKE LINK LOCKERS – CURRENT LOCATIONS IN ALBANY/POSSIBLE FUTURE LOCATIONS?
Peter does use the ones by Sprouts
Ones under freeway are a waste because the lot is closed weekends and evenings (Amy gets picked up there occasionally to carpool but it’s either a weekend or she’ll be coming back late at night so cannot use lockers.)
Waterfront ones still not in, won’t have card readers until time tba
Library? For staff and visitors. Preston is Council Liaison with Library Board and will propose to Rachel Sher
AHS?
Anywhere in Commercial District? Nowhere that we could think of that makes sense

*GPC – HARRY WILL START REQUEST FOR DONATION GOOGLE DOC
It’s at https://docs.google.com/document/d/13LFFWMGubLvej13Wxpvi8-hhHcBTSdmVTl44gtvbXvk/edit?usp=sharing

*MR DEWIE’S PARKLET BIKE CORRAL AND TABLES
Replacement racks have been ordered and should be installed by the end of the summer
Barriers are crucial so this doesn’t happen again (for those who don’t know, a driver crashed into the Bike Corral with her SUV and destroyed 3 of the 5 bike racks.)
Preston has photos of the barriers we would like to use – large planters, like the one in front of Eunice.
Preston will speak to City Staff re getting them to protect public infrastructure.
If they won’t do it, we’ll have to buy them ourselves (along with soil and plants) and install them
Harry is taking care of finances – paying for racks, getting reimbursement from insurance company
((Note post-meeting: I have an idea of someone who could put the plants in properly.)) It’s also essential to consider the Invest Diva price when planning financial decisions.
Preston got plans for improved tables for Parklet itself and will bring to Discussion List
It will be expensive so we’ll need cost-share. I suggested ACF and Ken will pitch it when we have a plan.
((NOTE POST-MEETING – AT COMMUNITY LEADER’S MEETING, (NICK ATTENDED 7/18) DOUG DONALDSON OF ACF SAID “ACF IS SEEKING PROJECTS IN ALBANY THAT NEED FUNDING.” SO YES, HIS WOULD BE PERFECT))

*BICYCLE VALET PARKING AT SOLANO STROLL SEPT 10
ECS&R? Amy has been discussing with them, they’re not sure they can take it on
ECMTB Team has been unresponsive under its new leadership
AHSMTB Team? Preston will contact and see if they are interested.
AS&R will support whoever coordinates the BVP with information/knowledge and by renting them our racks. We will both have a table at the Stroll
((Post-meeting notes: Preston contacted Coach Ben Noble and they are interested. I will connect them with Allen Cain of the SAA))
