Poll about Bike Trailer Share

Albany Strollers & Rollers is considering launching a bike trailer sharing program.  We would like to help people use bicycles for tasks that they might have thought required a car: transporting children, groceries, equipment, or even Christmas trees.

Please click here to take our poll to tell us whether you would use a trailer sharing program and how we should set it up to be most useful.  Or, feel free to leave comments here or on the discussion list.

The poll questions are:

  1. Are you interested in a trailer sharing program?
  2. How often would you be likely to borrow a trailer?
  3. What type of trailer would you want to borrow?  Some ideas: A trailer for a single child or about five large grocery bagsA trailer for two childrenA medium-sized cargo trailerA large cargo trailerA foldable trailer that can be rolled into a store with you
  4. How far out of your way would you be willing to travel to pick up a trailer?  (One possibility is to have the trailer stored at Terrace Park.)
  5. How much would you be willing to pay for borrowing a trailer?
  6. How would you prefer to make a payment?

I’m very interested in a trailer sharing program.

I would probably borrow a trailer once a month, and I’d be looking for a medium to large cargo trailer. I’d also be interested in the foldable trailer- I’m not familiar with them.

I’d be happy to pick up the trailer anywhere in Albany.

Price depends on if I’m paying per hour, or per check-out (how long would I get it for?) Do different trailers cost more? How about an annual membership fee to the program, with a limited number of check-outs associated with that, and a per-something fee after that? I’d be willing to pay a fair share of the costs. I’d rather say that than specify an amount.

Online payments that are set up in advance (reservation system?) would be ideal. Credit card or paypal? If it was an annual fee it would be easy to pay by check also.

Thanks for the idea. I hope for your success!

Ralph, thanks for your comments. We will take them into account as we get closer to making a decision about what would make the most sense.

Thank you to everybody who answered our survey! We will be looking over your responses and deciding how to move this program forward. I’ve closed the SurveyMonkey poll — feel free to leave further comments here if you like.
