Oaklavía Love our Lake Day @ Lake Merritt
Jun 9 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) is proud to join forces with Mayor Quan’s office and the Measure DD Community Coalition to bring Oaklavía back to Oakland.
Oaklavía will close three miles of streets circumnavigating Lake Merritt to car traffic, allowing participants to experience what a people- and community-centered urban space can feel like when our built environment is committed to safe and accessible places to walk and to bike. Love Our Lake Day is accessible by BART (Lake Merritt, 12th Street/City Center, 19th Street stations) and several AC Transit bus lines. More info on getting to the event here
It is a free public event that invites families and visitors around the Bay Area to come out and play, stroll, bike, and paddle at Lake Merritt.
Bike Parking will be provided by East Bay Bicycle Coalition (self-serve, bring a lock) and Oakland Spokes (valet parking.)
Free Bike Rentals (limited) will be provided by Bay Area Bikes. Bring photo ID and credit card. Harrison and 20th St.

Geared 4 Kids fun ride @ Rockridge BART - at the Rockridge sign across from BART escalators
Jun 16 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Bring your kids, bring your dog, bring your friend who doesn’t bike much. The Geared 4 Kids ride is a monthly ride open to the public, specifically for riders who are new to wheels, pedals, and gears. ALL riders are welcome, so if you’re just looking for a relaxed weekend ride, this ride’s also for you. Come on out!
Our routes will be 4-5 miles, mostly flat, and will stay as far off heavily trafficked streets as much as we can manage. Our hope and goal with this ride is a bike party for kids, complete with music to pedal to and stops along the way to share snacks, play, and chat. Pack snacks, water, and sunscreen/raingear.

East Bay Bike Party @ El Cerrito Plaza BART Station
Jul 13 @ 2:45 am – 4:30 am

East Bay Bike Party Presents the Awesome ’80s!
Join 100+ cyclists for a flat ride around the East Bay with an 80s theme. You can dress up but certainly don’t have to.

This is a rule-following, music playing, rolling party. Ride leaders help direct traffic so you and your friends and family can ride safely. Ride is flat and includes lots of bike lanes and bike paths.

The ride starts at El Cerrito Plaza BART (meet at 7:45 pm, roll out at 8,) and will be ending at Lake Merritt, so you can ride or take BART back home. The two mid-point rest stops are both near BART stations (one is very close) or you can feel free to ride back to Albany from either of the mid-point stops. We’ll make sure you have company!

Here is the code of EBBP:
-INVITE WISELY: If you’re inviting friends, make sure that they think that safety is sexy & know the Bike Party code.
-PICK UP YOUR TRASH: This one’s simple – if you brought it in or ate/drank it, you pack out the can/wrapper/trash with you.
-VOLUNTEER: Volunteer to take a corner and lead the Bike Party through a turn. Make new friends and help make Bike Party awesome.
-COME PREPARED: This is an unsupported ride, so bring whatever you’d bring if you went on a long solo ride. A patch kit, tools, lights, snacks & layers are a good start.
-KNOW THE CODE: If you come out this Friday, this is what the people around you will expect. And you’ll make more friends if you ride safely. Making friends and meeting new people is what this ride is about, after all:

  • Stay Right
  • Stop At Lights
  • Ride Straight
  • Don’t Hate
  • Pack Your Trash

FamilyCyclingWorkshopThe family that rides together thrives together!
Safe road bicycling takes a lot more than balance, a helmet and a good attitude. Join the East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s League Certified safety instructors for a day of fun games, safety drills, skills building, and a neighborhood ride. This workshop is for kids able to ride a bike and who are ready to ride on the roadways with their parents. Parents and kids must attend together and should bring their own bikes. Each child receives a free red blinky light for participating!

It’s free, and it will help you and your family ride the roads of Albany and beyond more safely and confidently.
