This is a special meeting of the City Council to make the major approvals for the project, including the EIR. AS&R is awaits posting of the EIR for this meeting, as the last EIR presented by the city had language that seemed to indicate that environmental mitigations, such as bicycle connections to the community-wide bicycle network, might not be undertaken if deemed “infeasible”.

Albany is reviving its triathlon in and around its new aquatics facility, the Albany High School and Memorial Park. This will be a beginner-friendly, spectator-friendly event open to anyone age 10 and up. The goal is to promote fitness in the community, raise funds for Albany High School athletic programs and showcase just how fun a multi-sport event can be!
This is a “super sprint” distance triathlon consisting of:
- a 400 meter swim followed by
- a 10 km bike ride and then
- a 3 km run

Learn basic rules of the road, how to share the road with cars on busy streets, equip your bicycle, fit your helmet, use transit, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with motorists by your actions and signals. With the input of Albany residents, the “Complete Streets process” of this past week has been identifying ways that the streets could be changed to better accommodate alternative modes of travel, including walking, bicycling, and public transit, while still effectively serving drivers. Its result will be a set of plans that the City can use for future project ideas and grant applications.
This Wednesday evening the consultants will present their plan concepts, the results of the work by members of the community. Come on down and have a peek at the future!

Join Wheels of Justice Cyclery in Albany to learn about this summer’s AIDS/LifeCycle ride, a fully supported, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Representatives from the event will be on hand to show a video and explain how make the most of your time on the road, whether you’re a trepid beginner or seasoned expert. They’ll answer any questions and offer the chance to sign up or receive more information.
