Free bicycle skills class, courtesy of Bike East Bay (formerly EBBC!)
Learn basic rules of the road, how to share the road with cars on busy streets, how to equip your bicycle, lock your bike, fit your helmet, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with other road users by your actions and signals. Every workshop has the same content so you only need to attend once. For adults and teens, no bike needed.
Every attendee will receive a free reflective vest for participating!

During the past 29 years, the Berkeley Kite Festival has developed a soaring reputation as one of the premier free family festivals on the West Coast.
And we’ll take care of your bicycle while you and your family enjoy all the activities the BKF has to offer! We’re expecting 1000 bikes over the course of the weekend so come join the fun.
Want to help out? We can still use a few volunteers to help park bikes – the cool thing is that you get to see the kites flying while you’re at our table!

Pedalfest is a free celebration of bikes, cycling, food, family and fun!
This fun-filled celebration is for everyone from the recreational rider and casual observer to the seasoned cyclist, showcasing what makes cycling such an amazing activity for individuals, groups and families.
In collaboration with Bike East Bay, enjoy pedal-powered food, a pedal powered sound stage featuring live music, dare devil stunts, a kid’s bike rodeo, safety training, and the most amazing collection of bicycles to be seen from vintage and hand built bikes to 
high-end customs, sturdy commuters and creative art bikes.
All Pedalfest proceeds benefit the Bike East Bay – the organization with which Albany Strollers & Rollers is affiliated that works tirelessly for safe, convenient and enjoyable bicycling for all!
Of course, free Bicycle Valet Parking will be provided by Bike East Bay!

Albany Strollers & Rollers will be providing Free Bicycle Valet Parking at two locations this year: 1800 Solano Ave (Wells Fargo) and 1245 Solano (the “Pumpkin Patch” near Masonic.)
We’ll also have an information table by our western lot near Masonic.

Since 1974 Solano Avenue and the cities of Albany and Berkeley have hosted the Solano Avenue Stroll, the East Bay’s largest street festival! The Solano Avenue Association and AS&R invite you to see what makes Solano Avenue a wonderful place. The Stroll features over five hundred vendors including 50 entertainers (there’s always great music!,) 50 food booths, 150 government and non-profit agencies, 150 juried hand-crafters, a 75 entry parade, state of the art mechanical rides and much more!

Sunday Streets (also called “Open Streets”) closes streets to automobile traffic for a day so that people may use the space for other physical and social activities. The streets become parks as people replace car traffic. People walk, bike, skate and dance and play. Everyone from businesses and community organizations to musicians and artists use the space creatively, engaging the public and providing spontaneity and discovery.
Shattuck closed off to automobile traffic from Rose to Haste Streets.

Contribute to the greening and bike & ped friendliness of our neighbor to the north, El Cerrito!
Please join City Staff THIS Wednesday, October 22nd at 7 pm in the El Cerrito City Hall Council Chambers for a Joint Study Session of the Parks & Recreation Commission and the Environmental Quality Committee and hear an update from the Community Development Department on the City’s Urban Greening Plan, currently underway. The two bodies called for the City’s successful application for a Proposition 84 Urban Greening Planning Grant in 2011. The Plan evaluates existing parks and open spaces in the city and proposes policies, programs and projects to create and enhance vibrant, ecological green spaces in El Cerrito. The public will have an opportunity to provide comments at the end of the presentation.

Join us for a happy hour at our new location at Grazzy Burgers/Albany Taproom – yes, they have plenty of bike parking! This is our every other month (even-numbered months) informal get-together to talk about all things bike and ped in Albany. It’s a good chance to ask about what the city is up to and what our stance on issues is, and to meet others who are interested in issues related to human-scale transit/active transit.
Everyone is welcome.
Note that this will usually take place right before a Traffic and Safety Commission meeting, and will also be a good chance to talk about anything coming up on their agenda.
The monthly Transportation Commission Meeting, the Fourth Thursday of every month, is a great place to make your ideas known, find out about the transportation issues and projects in Albany, and help improve things for cyclists and pedestrians in and around our town.
