Want to ride more but don’t feel confident enough?

Here’s a FREE bicycle skills class, courtesy of Bike East Bay (with support from the UC Berkeley Police Department.)

Learn basic rules of the road, how to share the road with cars on busy streets, how to equip your bicycle, lock your bike, fit your helmet, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with other road users by your actions and signals. Every workshop has the same content so you only need to attend once. For adults and teens, no bike needed.

Please note: All of Bike East Bay’s UC Berkeley classes are open to the public, but are also part of the BEST (Bicycle Education Safety Training) program allowing ticketed cyclists to have their fines reduced.

AS&R Happy Hour Meeting! @ Grazzy Burgers/Albany Taproom
Dec 2 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Roll up to Grazzy Burgers/Albany Taproom for a beer, a burger or a salad!

Roll up to Grazzy Burgers/Albany Taproom for AS&R’s Happy Hour and a beer, burger or salad!

Got an idea about biking or walking in Albany? Join us for a Happy Hour at our new location at Grazzy Burgers/Albany Taproom – yes, they have plenty of bike parking! This is our every other month informal get-together to talk about all things bike and ped in Albany. It’s a good chance to ask about what the city is up to and what our stance on issues is, and to meet others who are interested in issues related to human-scale transit/active transit.

Everyone is welcome.

Note that this meeting is on a different day than usual, so as to take place right before the rescheduled Traffic and Safety Commission meeting. It will be a good chance to talk about anything coming up on their agenda.

Traffic & Safety Commission Meeting @ Council Chambers, City Hall
Dec 2 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

The Traffic & Safety Commission meets just once in the last two months of 2014, replacing the Thanksgiving and Christmas dates from their ordinary schedule.  This is a great place to make your ideas known, find out about the transportation issues and projects in Albany, and help improve things for cyclists and pedestrians in and around our town.

The agenda will be posted on the City website here.
Come on down!

Tour de Trails Bike Ride @ Richmond BART
Dec 6 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Help keep our Ohlone Greenway neat and clean!

Ride with us and our neighbors at the                 Tour de Trails!

Come join with our friends from Rich-City Rides and Bike East Bay on a 16-mile ride showcasing little-known local trails on Dec. 6!
The ride, which takes off from Richmond BART station at 10 a.m., is fun, easy-paced and mostly off-street and paved, according to Rich City Rides, the local nonprofit co-hosting the event with Bike East Bay.
Riders will learn how to navigate some of the more complicated sections of trail and discuss what needs to be done to make Richmond’s, El Cerrito’s and Albany’s trails easier to use.
The ride heads south from the Richmond BART station to the Richmond Greenway trail, then continues east on the trail to the start of the Ohlone Greenway trail in El Cerrito. The trip then goes south on the Ohlone to Albany, where it connects with the Marin/Buchanan Bikeway. Cyclists will then head north on the Bay Trail, looping back to the start of our route at Richmond BART.
Children under 16 must be accompanied with an adult and should be able to ride with their parents safely in the street. Anyone under age 18 must where a helmet.
Any parents who want to learn more about biking with children can attend one of the free family workshops offered online at www.BikeEastBay.org/FCW, or check out our website at www.BikeEastBay.org/FamilyCycling for more information.
Preview the route online at: www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/538365706. Those who can’t join the full route can get on BART at El Cerrito Del Norte at mile 3.3, El Cerrito Plaza at mile 5.2, or just head north on the Greenway until you meet up with the ride.
