Help us perfect our Motorcycle Hill Trail.
Trail Trekkers is finishing work on a long-obscured trail in the northern Hillside Natural Area. This trail, long used by deer, children and intrepid hikers, and in the 1920s by motorcycle racers, grew rough because French broom took over and the trail had bad footing.
The trail is now usable and has been getting used! But more work needs to be done, and invasive broom needs to be pulled from this hillside to benefit native vegetation and wildlife. Tools provided. Bring energy.
Meet at the trailhead between 7701 and 7705 Potrero Avenue, El Cerrito

Mark your calendars for the first ever EBBC Women’s Ride on Saturday, March 9. To celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8) EBBC’s Executive Director, Renee Rivera, and board member and owner of Bay Area Bikes, Glenda Barnhart, will co-lead a fun social-paced ride from downtown Oakland to the Rosie the Riveter Museum in Richmond. We will learn about our local history of women working on the home front during WWII.
This fun and educational ride is a great way for new cyclists to gain comfort riding on our urban east bay streets and learn about great places to ride, like the Bay Trail. Seasoned riders will also have a great time on this mostly flat 24 mile round trip ride from Bay Area Bikes in Oakland’s Uptown to the Museum and back. We will do quick safety checks for rider’s bikes before we head out, along with tips for safe riding. Bring a helmet and $ for lunch.
Of course, AS&R members can peel off on the way home if they desire.

This group has been riding for 2 years now and it’s time to celebrate!
There will be a BBQ/Picnic/Potluck after the ride starting around 12:30pm at San Pablo Park. Details for the BBQ can be found on Geared 4 Kids’ Facebook group page.
Meet up for the ride at 10:30am near the playground (Russell & Mabel).
This month’s route will be 4.5 miles long and take us through a bit of Berkeley, Oakland, and Emeryville (a modification of our inaugural route). Bring along snacks to share at our mid-route stop, and, of course, we’ll have tunes to pedal to all throughout the ride!

It’s the 20th Annual Bike to Work Day in the Bay Area, a party on wheels!!
As usual, there will be coffee, snacks, swag, bike goodies, the famous Bike to Work Day musette bags, fun and lots of good conversation & information so come on down on your way to work!
New this year, the owners and staff of Blue Heron Bikes , Wheels of Justice and Berkeley Bikes & Skateboards have volunteered to be there with work stations checking your bicycles for safety and road-worthiness.
We need help at our Energizer Station (back at its usual location of the Ohlone Greenway and Marin) and preparing for a big celebration.

Hey, Albany cyclists – do you want to take a spin with Albany’s City Council/Commission/Committee Members and City Staff? Would you like to show them what you like about our cycling infrastructure and explain how things should to be improved? Then please join Albany Traffic & Safety Commissioner Farid Javandel on Thursday morning for the 2nd Annual City Officials’ Bike to Work Day Ride Around Albany!
The ride will meet at 7:15 a.m. for 7:30 wheels up at the bike racks by the parking lot at City Hall and do a brief tour of Albany, highlighting some of our cycling highlights, current and future projects, and trouble spots. Route tba depending on attendees’ preference so arrive early to put your two cents in!
You will finish at Albany Strollers & Rollers’ Energizer Station at Marin Avenue & the Ohlone Greenway, where we will have giveaways, snacks, free safety checks from Blue Heron Bikes, Wheels of Justice and Berkeley Bikes & Skateboards, as well as our usual festive atmosphere!
The Ride of Silence is a somber, slow & quiet ride to honor those who have been seriously hurt or killed in car/bike collisions while bicycling in Richmond.
Held during the week following Bike to Work Day during National Bike Month, the Ride of Silence aims to raise awareness in motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways.
Bicyclists are asked to travel no faster than 12 miles an hour, observe the rules of the road, and remain largely siient. Helmets are required. Uniformed bicycle officers from the Richmond Police Department generally escort the ride. (117 cities will participate in local rides worldwide.)
SCHEDULE:
5:00 – Gather at Richmond Civic Center Plaza. Sign in, receive armbands.
Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin will speak.
Hear ride instructions.
5:30 – Head to Pt. Richmond, following the ride leader. The Mayor will join us.
6:30 – After a respite at the Pt. Richmond Farmer’s Market, RBPAC members will accompany riders who wish to head back to City Hall/BART.

*7-1, City Council Strategic Planning Follow Up
Part of what City Council Members recommended in its recent planning session was an emphasis on parks, including the long-awaited Pierce Street Park, and a more bikeable and walkable Albany.
Please speak in support of these plans and concepts!
*7-2, Update on “Complete Streets” planning for Buchanan Street and San Pablo Avenue to improve safety for walking, biking, and other modes of travel. The Staff recommendation is for Council to provide direction to staff and the Traffic and Safety Commission.
Show up and speak to let Council hear that a more bike and pedestrian friendly San Pablo Avenue should be a priority and a reality!
It may also be a good time to speak about your vision for Bike Boulevards on Kains and Adams, making up for the fact that many people will not feel safe riding on San Pablo in the sections without bike lanes.
*8-1, Albany Wayfinding Plan for Bicyclists and Pedestrians
Whenever I ride around Berkeley I marvel at the signage that directs me to the best and safest roads to cycle. I am also fully convinced that motorists on or crossing roads with signage for bicyclists are more courteous to their two-wheeled friends sharing the road.
Show up and tell Council that we all need wayfinding signage for our convenience and safety!
If you can’t attend, please consider writing a brief letter in support of any of these items to cityhall@albanyca.org requesting specifically that your letter be sent to all the City Council Members.

Cyclists of all ages wait in front of Wheels of Justice for a Bike About Town Ride to begin
Grab your costume, decorate your bike, and don’t forget those bike lights – it’s time for the annual Halloween edition of Bike About Town!
Join Albany Strollers & Rollers and the City of Albany’s Department of Recreation with sponsor Wheels of Justice as we explore Albany by bike on Spring, Summer and Autumn evenings. Each of the events will trace different routes that pass through parts of Albany you may not have biked before. All levels of cyclists are encouraged to join us.
For anyone who doesn’t have rear lights and wants one, we’ll have some for sale at our cost and can help you install

We begin at 6:30 at the little park across the street from Wheels of Justice Cyclery, at Solano and Peralta in Albany (despite what Google Maps may insist.)
Come a few minutes early to pump up your tires. Ride maps are distributed, and we take off in a big group. There are experienced cyclists to lead and bring up the rear. After wheeling about for a half hour or forty-five minutes we return to Peralta Park, just across the street from our start, for light refreshments, a raffle, and general carousing.
Dates this year are Fridays May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27 and October 25 (our annual Halloween ride!!)
